Kate Raworth, born 13 December 1970, is an English economist.[^2] She is the creator of the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries and a co-founder of Doughnut Economics Action Lab.[^1] She teaches at Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute and is Professor of Practice at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.[^1] Both her degrees are from Oxford: a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and an MSc in Economics for Development.[^1]

She worked with micro-entrepreneurs in Zanzibar, was a co-author of the UN Development Programme's Human Development Report from 1997 to 2001, and spent about a decade as a senior researcher at Oxfam.[^1,2] She first set out the Doughnut in a 2012 paper, A Safe and Just Space for Humanity, and developed it in her 2017 book Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think Like a 21st-Century Economist.[^2] The Doughnut sets an inner ring of essential human needs, such as food and education, against an outer ring of planetary boundaries.[^2] In Amsterdam she advises the Doughnut Hub, where students and researchers work with local stakeholders on her principles.[^2]

She is named as a mentor or inspiration by [LocalScale](/organizations/localscale/).
