The City of Zürich publishes its 3D city model through its geodata portal rather than as a single viewer. The main dataset, Bauten - Dachmodell (3D), is a roof model built on the building footprints of the official cadastral survey, with roof structures measured photogrammetrically. Beside it are 3D roof models at LoD2 for the years 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2018, each covering the building envelope and roofs from that year's aerial survey, and a series of historical city models of the whole municipal area reconstructed for around 3000 BC, AD 200, 1200, 1500 and 1800, together with a 3D street-noise profile dataset.

The portal pages describe the data, not its uses; they are the city's reference 3D geodata for anyone who needs them.

What is open: every dataset read is marked "frei von Nutzungsbeschränkungen" (free of usage restrictions). The roof model can be downloaded for the whole city or a chosen extent as ESRI File Geodatabase, GeoPackage or DXF, and as CityGML for the entire city; the LoD2 models as GeoPackage or DXF; the historical models as Wavefront OBJ. Each is also served as WMS, WFS and WMTS. No licence name is given on the pages read, and there is no code to speak of.

Status: operational. The roof model's data date is 25 April 2021 with irregular updates; the LoD2 2018 model was last updated 24 May 2024 with no further update planned; the historical models carry a data date of 23 September 2025 and are updated as needed.
